Bones - 'The Ghost in the Machine'

I'm watching this JUST in time for 2-hour the winter premiere tomorrow night!! Can't wait!!
Bugs. Ew. I know my darling Hodgins will be very excited about this, but seeing a bunch of buzzing insects crawling across my screen isn't so much fun. Then I see Hodgins leaning over and brushing them away - and he's looking into the camera.
Wha-?
This is weird, it's not very often that they break the so-called '4th wall' on TV shows, especially not on crime shows... Apparently this whole episode is gonna be from the skull's point of view. Gross. Weird. Also I don't think anything overly interesting is gonna happen, I don't know how they're going to have the skull sitting in on the interviews and what not.
Bones thinks the body is a boy, and young, 13-14 years old. Which makes Booth Hodgins and Bones want to see their kids.
When the skull (and us) are taken back to the Jeffersonian, the psychic played by Cyndi Lauper is back!! Which is funny, because I never realised how much she sounds like Janine from Ghostbusters!!!
'Ghostbusters. Yes, we're serious.'
Avalon (the psychic) says that she heard someone calling her, and that he's hanging around the body, listening to them and seeing them all working on that.
Angela is also struggling with the fact that the body is a young boy, and gets all defensive in a room full of 'detatched' scientists, so Hodgins tells her 'I love it when you hang on to your humanity, even if it gets me yelled at.' D'AWWWW!!! Those two were definitely made for each other. Because they're fictional. So they had to be perfect together lol.
Angela goes and takes the skull to reconstruct the face and she talks to it because she wants him to know he's in good hands and they're going to make sure they find out what happened to him.
They run her drawn face through the computer and find a match to a boy who's been missing for 2 years named Colin. He was 14 years old and Brennan starts crying, even though right before that she'd been ranting about how there is no emperical evidence for souls or ghosts or 'presences'. And she seems all apologetic about it as she keeps crying and Booth hugs her.
Then Hodgins is talking to the skull, and I know I said before that the whole looking-into-the-camera thing was freaking me out, but then again...
Who wouldn't love staring into those baby blues all the time??
Angela is a lucky woman.
Cam thinks he's crazy, and then turns herself and talks to the skull saying 'if you see my mother on the other side, please tell her I'm... 87% happy and I love her' ahahaha aww. Hodgins finds out the bones were left abovegound and then moved to be buried in the greenhouse where they were found.
They clean the bones and arrange it on a table because the parents want to see him, and this is something I've never seen on this or any other show - the parents talking TO the body and saying 'goodbye Colin we love you'. Apparently he had been very good at school and sports and had lots of friends.
Some of those friends show up and give them something - a mixed CD that Colin had given to the one girl - and Angela listens to it and realises that he had had a crush on the girl Miranda he went to school with.
They also find discoloration on the skull which Bones figures out was caused by sunlight, and Colin suffered a gash to his chest, his neck was snapped, he had fractures to his hands knees and pelvis, (wounds that would have been caused by falling VERY fast) and there was a paint chip in his wound which matched an old school car - one of which his dad owns. Innnteresting.
Avalon comes in and talks to him again, and she says that he was destined for a good life - he was going to have a good life and 3 children. She says 'those souls will find some other way to come to Earth, just not as the people they were going to be.' And that broke my heart.
Bones takes Colin's skull home with her and Booth, and then to somewhere that could possibly be the place he was initially buried. They also find a hood ornament matching the one from his dad's car and also consistent with the wound from his chest. And I'm finding this really implausible, because there is NO WAY they would just be randomly carrying around such a vital peice of evidence!
Also, why are there no squinterns in this episode?? What's up with that??
Angela uses her computer to run a simulation of how Colin could have gotten those injuries, and they figure out that he was 'surfing' on the hood of his dad's car which he had 'borrowed' to impress his friends, fell, and hit his chest on the hood ornament, then fell to the ground and the car hit him before the driver could stop.
They interview all his older friends, and the one guy breaks down and tells them everything, and all of them (except the girl) were there when it happened.
Avalon says he was still there, though, even though his killers had been found. Then Angela remembers that there was a weird noise at the end of the CD Colin had made, so they play it on a computer and it was actually a video that he had made of himself talking and singing to Miranda, telling her that he liked her. And they show it to her and they all start crying - and then Avalon can see Colin standing behind all of them, and he waves to her and disappears. So sad...
We go back to normal camera-view, and Bones and Booth are in their kitchen and Bones has brought back one of my favourite lines from YEARS ago: 'Phalanges! Dancing phalanges!' and waving her hand around in front of Christine's face ahahaha that made me laugh so hard - and it did too when she asked Booth whether she thought Christine should learn the Periodic Table HAHAHAH!!! (Earlier, I forget when, she also brought back her catchphrase: 'I don't know what that means') and then Booth, being the romantic he is, makes Bones a mixtape, and starts it with what he refers to as 'our song', she's confused but I knew it would be -
HOT BLOODED BY FOREIGNER!!! I CALLED IT!!!!
Wow.
This episode was weird, in a good way - and sad, but mostly very moving. Bones is knocking it out of the park this season. Speaking of which, about a week ago we found out that THEY'VE BEEN RENEWED FOR A 9TH SEASON!!! HOORAY!!!! I'm so happy to hear this.
