CSI - 'CSI on Fire'

The desert. BOOM. Fire. In the desert.
Russell and Finn arrive to see a bunch of army dudes combing over the giant fireball on the ground. Finn mentions that it looks like the beginning of an alien invasion movie.
That's right Finn, they're coming to get you...
A cop who was first on the scene shows them what he believes to be a mass grave. They comb through some dirt and uncover a hand. Then some FBI lady comes over and getsd mad about their 'interfering with her federal investigation' (which makes no sense, because they're nowhere near the fire...) and Russell cites a long number at her , says it's their jurisdiction because of the body, and she backs off, causing him to go 'Huh. That's the first time that's ever worked.' You go, Russell!!
When they return from commercial, they've found more bodies, and soil, plants and bugs which show that the bodies were not buried there originally, but came from somwhere farther north in the USA.
Then Finn uncovers a necklace on one of the bodies, and freaks out. She runs over to her computer and compares it to a picture. Apparently it belonged to a girl named Janet Warren who disappeared over 2 years ago and she and Russell had both worked the case. He won't let her contact Janet's mother yet, until a positive identification is made, and she starts talking about a guy named Cooley who they suspected of killing Janet 2 years ago in Seattle - and since there are now 8 bodies uncovered, he's a serial killer. Also uncovered was a class ring from 1987.
Henry found the identities of 2 more of the bodies, both victims fit the same profile, had traces of date-rape drugs in their systems and were last seen approximately a decade ago in the same part of downtown Seattle, close to Cooley's office.
She's disappeared and Russell tracks her phone to Seattle. He calls someone named Mike and next we see Finn being pulled over by a cop - Mike. Also, her ex-husband, apparently.
The place where they suspected Cooley had buried the girls in Seattle is now developed into a subdivision. Because Cooley sold the land to cover his tracks.
Janet Warren's mother drove down to Vegas and BEGS to see her daughter - who is basically a mummified corpse, why would a parent want to see that?
Finn tracks the class ring to an Eric Louie who had ordered a new ring because his girlfriend at the time had lost it after she dumped him - he's now a cop, and the ex-girlfriend is now his wife. She says she didnt know Tom Cooley very well in highschool but had once been to a party on his ranch.
They also uncover that Cooley's best friend from higschool was a developer who Cooley had hired to develop the land on his ranch, that deal made the best friend a millionaire who retired to the Virgin Islands, and then died 3 weeks later, while scuba diving. Coincidence? I think not!
At least he didn't end up like this scuba diver...
Then they turn on the TV and see Cooley on the tube, offering money to clear his name, acting like he is a victim, because he was 'persecuted' by Finn. She's standing in Mike's house and he tells her 'you should put the mug down Jules' and she starts ranting about what a bastard he is, then throws the mug at the TV and breaks both. Then he goes 'Not the TV!' and she says 'My TV. I paid for it'. HAHA gotta love Finn, she's a feisty one.
Cooley and his a-hole attorney are at the police station, talking smack to Brass (who, don't wprry, can hold his own) and then he lets them leave, with a warning.
Finn shows up at Cooley's hotel room (OK not the smartest idea, girlie, what're you doing?!) and he's not surprised to see her, but to my surprise, he doesn't tell her to get out, he just tries to play mind games with her about how he's better than she is, and then says 'how do you know I'm not gonna kill you right now?'
Finn returns to HQ to find Russell on his way out - he just got a call saying that Cooley committed suicide in his hotel room - and of course it's super-suspicious that she'd been there, but even though it's more than likely murder, she wants them to try and figure out what actually happened. He was also drunk and had a perscription for the drug that was found in the systems of the dead girls.
They don't know who would have killed Cooley, but figure it was probably one of his accomplices covering his tracks, but his best friend was already dead. Finn goes back to Seattle, and talks to the cop's wife. She says that when she had gone to that party, it was just her and 3 teenage boys - Cooley, Max the contractor, and a third guy, Gavin. The lawyer. She'd been drinking and said she could usually hold her booze, but that night she blacked out and then when she woke up, she was in a hole and the boys were shovelling dirt onto her. She got up and escaped and they yelled after her 'no one's gonna believe you, whore!'. That's how the ring was lost, and wound up in dirt from the ranch.
Greg and Russell find a magnet that Gavin had used to break into Tom's room and he confesses and gives them the names of the other unidentified girls.
Finn says that it cost her 2 years, 2 jobs, and one marriage, but she finally got him, so she's happy.
I liked this episode. Poetic justice dished out to a cocky serial murderer, and I'm glad we got to learn more about Finn in this episode, she's always been quite the enigma!!
Until next week, my dear CSI fans, stay awesome, and thanks for reading!! :)
